The Indian Govt on 29th June held Ban on 59 Chinese Apps, some of them are prominently used in India on a day to day basis.
India's Ministry of Information Technology has said the ban was the result of "many complaints from various sources" about apps that were "stealing and allegedly transmitting users' data in an unauthorized manner".
There were many cases of Data theft, infringement of community guidelines & are accused of sharing sensitive information with the Chinese government.so the Govt might have made a plan of Banning some of the Major Apps Chinese Apps.
The other major reason can be the Tension that has been created between India & China related to the Border issues in Ladhak. There is a major turf between both the countries & reports suggest that China is doing its best to occupy the disputed land.
Even in this harsh state of this never-ending Pandemic where many countries are at Lockdown including India. China, on the other hand, is showing their illogical & immature dominance over other countries.
The 59 Apps Banned by the Indian Govt :
Including some of the Most used once in India :
Their Response:
Only TikTok responded against the ban, in the official statement on TikTok India Instagram Page, they said that -
"TikTok continues to comply with all data privacy & security requirements under Indian Law and has not shared any information of our users in India with any foreign Govt including the Chinese Govt"
They say that they never share any information with the Chinese Govt but The Chinese Intelligence law 2017 by Article 11, Article 14 & Article 16 that suggests :
Article 11:
National intelligence work institutions shall lawfully collect and process relevant intelligence on foreign bodies, organizations and individuals engaged in, or inciting or assisting others to engage in, or domestic bodies, organizations and individuals who collude with foreign bodies, organizations or individuals to engage in harm to the national security and interests of the People’s Republic of China, in order to provide intelligence as a reference and basis and reference for preventing, curbing and punishing the above acts
Article 14:
National intelligence work institutions, when carrying out intelligence work according to laws, may ask relevant institutions, organizations and citizens to provide the necessary support, assistance, and cooperation
Article 16:
Intelligence officials “may enter relevant restricted areas and venues; may learn from and question relevant institutions, organizations, and individuals; and may read or collect relevant files, materials or items”.
Knowing or Unknowingly every Chines Company which operates in countries other than China has to collect data from their set of users and have to give that data to the Chinese Govt & have abide by the law under any circumstance.
Services & popular apps like Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, Twitter, Gmail, Google(Search), All Google apps(including Play Store, drive), YouTube, Pinterest, Quora, Skype, Reddit, NewYork Times, BBC, Wall Street Journal are Banned in China.
They have censored everything in their country & if some company wants to make their App or service in China, the company has to collect data and provide that to the Chinese Govt without any compromise.
China has banned all the Popular Apps which are famous all around the globe so why can't we Boycott their apps, each and every country should start Boycotting Chinese apps & that's great to see that India took the first step.
After Math:
India is TikTok's biggest foreign market, with an estimated 120 million active users. “TikTok earns a certain amount of revenue from India market. It is quite likely they are earning ₹2.5 crores in revenue per day. For whatever period of time the ban stays, they will lose the revenue," said Harish Bijoor, a Bengaluru-based brand consultant (livemint.com).
Alibaba-owned UC browser has over 430 million active users globally, and 130 million of them are in India. According to StatCounter, a web analytics firm, UC browser was the second leading mobile browser in India, with a 14.5% market share after Google Chrome, as of May 2020 (livemint.com).
There are many Chinese Apps that are Still Available & which are not placed in the List of 59 Apps. But the List consisted some of the Prominent Apps & banning these Apps will definitely cause great harm financially to the owners of these Apps.
Here I Suggest some of the Popular & greatly Useful Alternatives to tackle the Chinese Apps :
#1 Short Video Platforms
TikTok had a huge user base in India followed by hello, likee, etc. Tik Tok had 16.4 million new installs in June, the app generated revenue of $924,000 from June 2019 to June 2020 in India.
TikTok India users very satisfied with the & many users very addicted to the app, many users posted daily videos on the App, and a TikTok India community was built around it.
So its could be tough to change the platform but there apps like Triller (a New York based App for short Videos), Chingari & roposo which are both India Based Apps & Dubsmash a German-based app could be the potential alternatives and might be less harmful as compared to the other ones.
In my point of view, Triller & Dubsmash would be very stable, would be easy to use, and could be a good platform to create awesome Short Videos and to connect to masses. I really do not consider Mitron a potential alternative as it is just like a clone of TikTok.
#2 News App
As Weibo & UC News are banned the best alternatives for reading News would be Google News, Inshorts, Feedly.
For reading News all Over the globe, you should try Feedly App. For Reginal & International News Google News is the all in One App.
TOI & The Hindu are also great for reading news & gaining some knowledge, Inshorts app is best for reading news in a very short, on the go & informative way.
#3 Document Scanner
CamScanner was one of the most used & was one of the most useful apps but it Banned in India due to threats which this app possesses. There are some really great alternatives to this :
My Favs from the list are :
1) Microsoft Lens
2) VFlat
3) Document Scanner (Made in India)
#4 Internet Browser
UC browser has over 430 million active users globally, and 130 million of them are in India. According to StatCounter, a web analytics firm, UC browser was the second leading mobile browser in India just after Google Chrome.
UC Browser was removed from PlayStore many times as it was found that the browser was trying to steal Users Data but everytime the Ban was held, the developers used to change some policies or some features & the app would again be available on Playstore to Download but this time the Indian Govt has banned it so it is not available to download.
For enhanced security, you can download Firefox Focus, Brave Browser, Duck Duck Go browser. These browsers provide great security & many trackers are been disabled in these browsers, so you can browse seamlessly without any threat of data leak.
#5 File Explorer
Es File Explorer was a very useful App but reports suggest that the app used to collect Important User data & this data was transferred to some other networks, currently, it is Banned in India.
There is Chinese App Xiaomi File Explorer which also is a Chinese App, here are apps Like :
Files by Google, Solid Explorer, Fx Explorer, Astro Manager which are non-Chinese Apps and are great alternatives & are not suspicious of transferring your data to some other Network by any Means.
#6 Online Shopping
Shein & Club factory offered some great discounts but now they are banned so we should use these alternatives Ajio, Myntra & TatacliQ which are India based Shopping Sites and others Like Amazon & Flipkart for our shopping needs.
If you surf intelligently you can find some great deals at a very low price & some great discounts, I suggest you to compare the same product at different sites & you might get that product at a lesser price.
#7 Video Editor
Viva video had around 100M+ downloads but & was used extensively for editing Videos but now it is Banned due to security issues.
If we talk about boycotting Chinese Apps inshots.inc has around 37 Apps on Playstore & it is a Chinese Company. They are hiding the fact that they are a fully Chinese owned company. Inshots & Glitch video among many apps have around 100M+ downloads, please stay away from downloading these Chinese Apps which are all just trying to steal our data.
Kinemaster, Alight & Vita are some of the best Alternatives & I am damm sure you will not miss a single feature in these Video editors compared to other Chinese Video Editors. Quik (by GoPro) can be a good option for Editing Short Videos.
#8 File Sharing
Frankly speaking none of the files sharing apps are as fast as Xender, all of them works superbly but not as fast as sender.
Been using Xender for many years & was used to it but now its hard to switch to some other file sharing App.
Slowly gradually we will see these apps sharing data in a quicker way but currently, they are not fast enough.
#9 Office Apps
WPS Office is a Hong Kong-based Chinese App, there are 6 more apps from the Company Kingsoft. Such Chinese apps are still not banned in India but we should stay away from using them.
There are great alternatives to this app, Microsoft Office, Polaris Office & Officesuite are the best alternatives to WPS office. Try using them instead of these Chinese apps.
#10 VPN
Turbo Vpn is really very easy to use & gets the work done but its also a Chinese app but which is still not banned.
Apps like Proton, Hola, Betternet & Touch Vpn are some of the best and free Vpn services which works perfectly so try using it.
#11 Photo Editing
Light X is an Indian App, it is still very underrated but you can edit photos superbly from this app.
Then there is the feature riched Snapseed & Lightroom which are the best editing apps out there.
VSCO offers some great filters you can use, Polarr also has some great filters. Apart from just filters, you can do overall editing in these apps too.
Chinese Apps I used the most :-
1} Xender
I have been using Xender for many years, the app was fast enough to share a 1 GB file in less than 7 mins. now its really hard to find its better alternative (in terms of Speed).
2} Xiaomi File Manger
This file manager accurately categorizes files in an easy & organized manner & it's easy to differentiate. The User Interface is very attractive but the app has better alternatives. I still have this app as I have a Xiaomi Phone, I have to find a way to uninstall it.
3} Turbo Vpn
The VPN is fast enough to connect to different servers around the world & was very useful, there are many alternatives to this so I am ok with it.
